Return to Blogging

Well, here I am in my final "resting place" before the end resting place, I guess.  Oh that sounds depressing, but I couldn't be in a better spot. We finally have no financial problems. We have no children to worry about. We are in fair shape and descent health. We are in "the friendliest hometown" in America where anything we want to do is here--except of course our children and their children.

I guess it's really not the best place. I would have liked to buy a place closer to my kids so I could watch my grandkids grow up. To compensate for that we do try very hard to gather them all together at least once a year somewhere. I do wish I could travel to see them more often.

Ready for West Virginia

Joel and I travel to West Virginia on Tuesday. We will visit our daughter's family--her husband Mike, her daughers (2 yr. old) Savannah and (3 week old) Georgia. I am very excited about this. We're staying one week and then hightailing it up to Canada for a wedding.

Philadelphia

Peggy's Pages
Just returned from Philadelphia where we spent the fourth of July week at a model railroad train convention. Had a nice and relaxing quiet time. Now I'm recuperating from all the walking and eating. We're planning another trip next week. Going to West Virginia to see our daughter and two granddaughters (Savannah is two years old, Georgia is two weeks old), then we are off to Canada for a wedding and back here. We hope to get up to Orlando to see my parnents in August and off to London in September. I like to travel, but it is getting more and more tiring and difficult as I age and more security is added.

Writings

Peggy's Pages
I spent the morning sleeping. This afternoon, I rewrote two pages of my friends' memoir.

I decided that I want to write the story of my friend's life. We meet and I record her memories as they flow. Then I type them in note form and then spend hours putting them in chronological order and introducing her personality and our friendship at the same time. I'm really having fun with this.

Georgia is born

My daughter had a daughter!

Georgia Marie Smith was born on June 22, 2006 at 10:56 AM in the hospital in Charleston West Virginia! She has a MOP of red hair. No photos yet. But we did see her last night on Beth's web cam from her home in Scotts Depot West Virginia.

Now, Beth has two little girls.
She can introduce them like this:
Beth: These are my daughters. Savannah, Georgia.

Savannah Rose Smith was born on March 18, 2004 in Houston Texas.

Returning to Blog

I have been remiss in writing in this blog. Sorry about that. Now that I have agreed to moderate an e-group for nonfiction writers with the Florida Writers Association, I'll need to blog more. Hopefully, there will be more interest. Writers need readers.

Florida Writers Association

This past weekend I attended a one day conference with the Florida Writers Association. I agreed to head the creative writing contest with entries due by July and an award ceremony in November in Orlando. Now that I am home, I have received some information and boy talk about making something complicated. There must have been lawyer writers writing the stuff for that contest. Prizes are very low compared to SFWA of which I headed for two years. I need to find a manual for FWA because it seems to be a very complicated organization. Just to win first place in the contest which is only $100.00, a writer has to submit three copies, follow specific guidelines, send in an entry fee--I haven't figured out how much yet--and join the organization for $35.00 or $45.00. I wonder if I'd do that? There were only 100 entries last year, so if they get 100 this year, they should make lots of money, except there are many many categories. So perhaps there is not much competition. Oh well, I'll try it this year. Seem like friendly people.
